Fires Strain Resources

It’s been non-stop for Fresno Fire Department crews dealing with fire after fire since Sunday Morning.
Today’s four alarm fire the latest in a string of fires to hit the city since Sunday morning.
A major fire hit in downtown Fresno on Sunday at a supply business near Van Ness and Los Angeles.
The cause of that fire remains under investigation.
On Monday morning crews were in action again, responding to a string of several arson fires in Central Fresno.
Witnesses detained a woman who was taken into custody and faces arson charges.
Early Tuesday morning crews were called back out to battle a three alarm fire on Fresno’s Southeast side.
That fire is being called suspicious.
Fire Fighter Chris Garcia says the same suits that protect them from flames cause them to super-heat when the valley bakes.
""we all have this gear on that doesn’t breathe at all and it’s designed that way to keep the heat out"
It’s not just Fire Fighters who get called into action when an event like today’s four alarm fire hit.
The American Red Cross is helping three families find shelter tonight.
And Fresno Community Emergency Response Team , or CERT is called into action to help fire crews fighting the elements.
CERT volunteer Dennis Hart says, "we’re here to help the fire fighters in effect survive their experience out here.
Today it was probably a hundred degrees. Well inside their suits it could be four hundred degrees three hundred degrees."
Each Fire Fighter works for about 15-20 minutes, and then rests for a half hour before starting the cycle again.
