Fresno City Council passes 2016 budget

Fresno City Council members voted this morning to pass the mayor’s 2016 budget.

The budget passed unanimously. Mayor Swearengin’s $ 1.2 billion budget adds 43 new police officers over the course of the year. It brings the force to 760 after losing 150 officers in the recession.

"This budget really shows how we are able to restore some critical services we provide to our residents," Esmerelda Soria, a Fresno City Councilmember said.

There is also money for the Fresno Fire Department to increase minimum staffing levels and get new equipment.
