Fresno County Sheriff Sergeant honored for his efforts in fighting abuse

Fresno County Sheriff Sergeant Jeff Kertson received an award that recognizes organizations and individuals that help victims of crime.

"We all come together to look out for those who can’t look out for themselves,” said Sgt. Kertson.

Kertson is a leader and volunteer, he’s dedicated his career to protect the valley’s community and protecting the most vulnerable victims. He works with all forms of abuse; child abuse, edler abuse, sexual assault, domestic violence and the child sexual predator program.

Congressman Jim Costa alongside Sheriff Margaret Mims presented the 2015 ‘Allied Professional Award’ to Sgt. Kertson on Tuesday in company of the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office. "We are honored to recognize you leadership, your commitment to the plike of those who are victims of crime, well done,” said Costa.

"He’s a great sergeant and I’m so very proud of him, and I’m so very thankful for Congressman Costa for recognizing his efforts,” said Sheriff Margaret Mims, Fresno County Sheriff’s Office.

Kertson began his career with the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office in 1994 as a Reserve Deputy Sheriff. Throughout his career he’s been changing lives, the Marjaree Mason Center sees the empowerment of Kertson’s service. "For Kertson to be out there protecting those young innocent children, those women, elders… everything… all those victims of crime is such important work and to be recognized, he’s very deserving,” said Genelle Taylor Kumpe, Executive Director of Marjaree Mason Center.
