Fresno PD Continues Investigation on 9th Gang-Related Murder, While Investigating Another Possible Gang-Related Broad Daylight Shooting

A string of shootings in South Fresno is keeping residents cautious about their surroundings. The Fresno Police Department is on the hunt for suspects involved in a possible gang-related shooting from Saturday afternoon in Southwest Fresno and a deadly gang-related murder in Southeast Fresno Friday night.

Residents who live near Pottle Avenue and Merced Street in Southwest Fresno were shaken after a drive-by shooting around 2:30pm on Saturday. Many said they were forced to duck and cover in their homes after the sounds of gunfire echoed throughout the neighborhood.

A resident who lives nearby the house that was allegedly targeted in the suspected drive-by wanted to remain anonymous. But he said off camera, "I was just shocked of what happened."

He continued that he was worried, "If my whole family was okay, like my mom, my nephew, my little sister, my brother. My older brother, his girlfriend."

Police said a man and a woman were shot. Investigators said the woman suffered from serious gun shot wounds, while the man suffered minor injuries. Police believe the drive-by was gang-related.

Sgt. John Romo said, "At this point, we don’t have any suspect information."

Police have not made any arrests in Friday night’s shooting in Southeast Fresno either. Investigators said around 9:21pm, two groups of males shot at each other in the Ranchwood Condos, leaving a man in his 60’s dead and a 30-year old injured. Officers discovered that the 30-year-old had a felony assault warrant and he is in the process of being booked into the Fresno County Jail.

Police said Friday night’s shooting is gang-related and the murder marks the 13th homicide of the year. This time last year there were 18 murders. This is the ninth gang-related murder compared to 15 gang-related murders this time last year.
