Fresno State is getting ready to celebrate one of the valley’s most well known activists: Cesar Chavez.

Today marks his work, as well as the birth of the UFW Union. There are several booths and activities set up on campus, including an art and photo exhibit. A blood drive is also happening until 2 p.m.

Student organizers say it’s all to make sure others get a sense of what farm workers do, and learn to appreciate Chavez’s work for dignity.

"It’s very important for us to continue his legacy, so that work can continue and farm workers one day have dignity for the work all across the nation," Griselda Aguilar, a student organizer, said.

Aguilar is a first generation student from a farm-working family.

Special guest speaker, and Fresno State alum, Dr. Lea Ybarra, contributed to many of Latino programs that exist today thanks to her activism in the 60’s.
