Fresno State Unveils Armenian Genocide Monument

Four thousand people attended a ceremony at Fresno State to unveil the Armenian Genocide Monument Thursday.

The monument is the only one of it’s kind on an American University. It took 100 days to construct and was funded through community donations.

1.5 million Armenians lost their lives in the 1915 genocide.

"If Armenians and people throughout the world don’t remember the Armenian Genocide and other genocides then those genocides with disappear. I think that’s wrong. We have to stand up for human rights," Professor Barlow Der Mugrdechain said.

Fresno State President Joseph Castro was one of a few who cut the ribbon on the monument. Friday has been declared Armenian Genocide Remembrance Day on the campus.
