Harry Baker Reportedly 'Gravely' Ill

Former Madera County supervisor and businessman Harry Baker may never face trial.<br /><br />87-year-old Harry Baker is charged with molesting a 13-year-old girl in a Fresno motel back in 2007. But his attorney says Baker is gravely ill, after he suffered a stroke two weeks ago.<br /><br />Baker’s trial has been delayed numerous times over the years because of issues with his health. And now, he may never see a courtroom. Or have to face a trial because of illness.<br /><br />&quot;He’s not doing very good. In fact the prognosis is pretty grave, that he’ll survive,&quot; said Baker’s attorney Roger Nuttall.<br /><br />Harry Baker’s attorney says Baker suffered a severe stroke on March 10th. And there has been very little improvement.<br /><br />&quot;A psychiatrist visited him in the hospital and he was unable to communicate with him,&quot; Nuttall said.<br /><br />Baker’s trial has been suspended. He was arrested in 2009 and charged with molesting a 13-year-old girl in a Fresno motel.<br /><br />The incident was captured on video by a hidden camera.<br />Baker claimed he was set up by gypsies who then blackmailed him for a quarter of a million dollars.<br /><br />&quot;He was tricked into a situation that perhaps on the surface didn’t look good until you looked at all the collateral evidence and put things in perspective so to speak,&quot; Nuttall said.<br /><br />Baker is currently in custody, at the hospital. <br />He was tossed in jail back in September after he failed to appear in court.<br />With his health declining, his attorney says it’s unlikely Baker will ever return to a courtroom.<br /><br />&quot;As a practical matter I have to say candidly, that its very unlikely this matter will ever proceed to trial,&quot; Nuttall said.<br /></div>
