Home of Hope: Fresno Police Chaplain Program

In addition to providing support services for the Fresno Police Department, the Fresno Police Chaplain program partners with Fresno schools to teach character and integrity to elementary students.
Their much-needed service will get a boost from the Granville Home of Hope fundraiser.
Thousands of calls for help come in to Fresno Police Department’s dispatch operators everyday. The calls range on the type of help needed and a lot officers are on a time crunch when  responding. That’s where the Fresno Police Chaplains step in. Most recently, they responded to the murder-suicide that took place inside Sang Pediatrics in downtown Fresno. They counseled and comforted those who witnessed the tragedy.
They also do prevention work in Fresno schools by teaching children resiliency curriculum and helping them build relationships with law enforcement at an early age. Chaplains are currently in 21 elementary schools with 5 schools on the wait list.
The chaplaincy program also dedicates resources to runaway children. In Fresno, there are 3,000 cases a year of runaway children. In an effort to dedicate more resources to these cases, the Fresno Police Chaplaincy has set up a 12-hour a day program that responds to runaway calls. Their goal is to make it a 24 hour a day service.
Funds from the Granville Home of Hope will help the chaplains continue their service.
