Monday morning at sunrise on Memorial Day, veterans, the community and families of service men and women gathered at Woodward Park to honor soldiers who died in service. The service started at 5:45 a.m. and lasted for 20 minutes. More than 50 people attended, coffee and donuts were served. It was an emotional morning. It was the 29th Annual Sunrise Memorial Day Service held at the Lakeview Shelter (just inside the Audubon Avenue gate). It was open to the public and park fees were waived. The ceremony was hosted by Chapter 933 of the Vietnam Veterans of America to honor the men and women who gave their "last full measure of devotion" to keep us free.
