Hundreds came out to raise funds of Capt. Pete Dern

Hundreds of softball players hit the diamond to raise money for the family of an injured Fresno fire fighter.

The Fresno Senior Softball League held a fundraising tournament for Fire Captain Pete Dern this weekend. Dern was severely burned while fighting a fire last month. They raised money through entry fees and a raffle.

"We have a lot of people that are givers and it’s a good way to generate some money," Joe Nichols, with Fresno Senior Softball, said.

"Every little bit helps and we appreciate any help that comes in," Casey Clark, with Fresno Fire, said.

Dern is expected to be hospitalized for months as he recovers from his injuries. An account has been set-up for donations.
