James Schoenfeld, one the men who kidnapped a bus full of kids in Chowchilla, was granted parole today

One of three men convicted in the Chowchilla bus kidnapping is getting out of jail.

James Schoenfeld was granted parole by a parole board just minutes ago. He, his brother, Richard, and a friend, Fred Woods, were convicted of kidnapping 26 school students and their bus driver in 1976. The men buried their victims alive in the bus inside a bay area rock quarry and demanded a $ 5 million ransom.

The victims escaped. James Schoenfeld is not the first person to be granted parole. His brother, Richard, was paroled two years ago.
