Jurors Find Greyhound 'Not Negligent' in Fatal 99 Crash

The verdict is in in the wrongful death civil suit involving a fatal crash between a greyhound bus and an SUV on a Fresno freeway…that killed six people, including three local women.<br /><br />&nbsp;After 5 weeks of testimony and about a day of deliberations, Tuesday,&nbsp;&nbsp; the jury reached a verdict – finding Greyhound is not liable in the accident<br /><br /> Those victims included 18 year old Sylvia Garay of Dinuba, 19-year-old Vanessa Gonzalez and 20 year old Stephanie Cordoba; both of Fresno.&nbsp; The accident happened in the early morning hours of July 22nd on Northbound 99 near McKinley Ave. Police say Garay was driving the SUV when it crashed and overturned,&nbsp; blocking a part of the highway.<br /> A Greyhound bus, driven by James Jewett, crashed into the SUV, killing the three women, the driver of the bus and two passengers on the bus<br /><br /> During the civil trial, the families of the three women were seeking monetary damages; hoping a jury would find that it was the negligence of Greyhound and it’s driver that lead to the fatal crash.<br /><br /> Witnesses and experts testified that the driver was speeding and not wearing his glasses. Other’s testified that it was not Garay (who an autopsy revealed was drinking) who was driving, but rather Gonzalez.&nbsp; <br /><br /> 10 of the 12 jurors decided Greyhound was not negligent. <br /><br /> Greyhound defense attorney Dana Fox says, &quot;<br /><br /> Garay Family attorney Jason Helsel says, &quot;<br /><br /> The families of the passengers on the bus who were awarded money from Greyhound.&nbsp;<br /><br /> The attorney of the families of the local victims say an appeal of the verdict is a possibility. <br /><br /></div>
