Licenses for undocumented immigrants

Look closely – the new category of California Driver’s Licenses, starting in January, will read “federal limits apply.” It will be eligible to undocumented immigrants.

Overnight it was standing room only at a community meeting in Redwood City just moments after the President’s speech. This room full of mostly undocumented immigrants who are completing an 11-week driver’s-ed course. They will be some of the first in-line for their first licenses in January.

Authorities say undocumented immigrants drive to work every day all over California, but most have no insurance and they have never fully learned the rules of the road. After a car accident they often abandon their cars. We’re talking about this on the CBS47 Facebook page this morning.
