CAL FIRE says they are battling four fires on Powerhouse Road and another five near Auberry Rd.
"As you can see it’s just ridiculously dry the rainfall that did come down it just evaporated right away," CAL FIRE Unit Chief Mark Johnson said.
He says around 35 acres have burned and crews are spread out, working to stomp out the blaze. He says air tankers have done a tremendous job dropping fire retardant and water in the area.
"They have held quite a few of these fires until our engines can get on scene and the troops can get the hoses around them," Johnson said.
No homes have been damaged but the fire has come close. Sharon Beck and her neighbors grabbed shovels to defend their property. CAL FIRE arrived before they could use them.
"We had to drive the long way home because of another incident on the road so the whole time my daughter and I were praying and she was crying a bit. It was hard because we saw how big the fire was driving around the road," Beck said.
CAL FIRE plans to stay in the area over night as similar weather patterns are expected Saturday.
