Madera county welcomes a new Sheriff

Madera county welcomed a change in leadership this afternoon as one sheriff steps down, and another is appointed. <br /><br />Jay Varney will take over duties from John Anderson. Varney spent three decades in law enforcement and recently served as Police Chief of Chowchilla. The ceremony is happened around noon today. <br /><br />Anderson was the county’s 14th sheriff since the department’s founding in 1893. Anderson held that office for 16-years.<br /><br /></div>
