Maggie Fire (Wildfire)

Another wildfire, most likely ignited last week from lightning, was discovered yesterday burning in the Golden Trout Wilderness in Sequoia National Forest. The “Maggie Fire” is burning east of Maggie Mountain twelve miles northeast of Springville. The Fire is burning in a 70 foot tall, 48” diameter White Fir tree with a half-acre ground fire surrounding it. At this time, a 20-person hand crew is taking action to stop the spread of the fire. The tree is burning at the top and the bottom making it unsafe for firefighters to cut it down. Firefighter and public safety are the Forest Service’s number one consideration in all wildland fire management decisions. Crews are using Minimum Impact Suppression Tactics (MIST) because they are in a wilderness area. Firefighters will suppress the fire with the least impact to the land.
