Man Arrested After Car Crash

A 19-year-old man is in jail, after a bizarre crash in West Fresno on Monday.

Police said Monday they were first called out to the intersection of Shaw and Polk, for a car accident with no details. Once they arrived, they found a truck crashed into a nearby home, and a Hispanic male holding down the 19-year-old, later identified as Mardik Mektarian. Police say Mektarian is also known as Mardik Mekhtarian.

Police said Mektarian asked the man for a ride, at the 3000 block of Shaw. As they approached Shaw and Polk, Mektarian allegedly pretended to have a gun, and tried to car jack the truck he was in. After a brief struggle, Police said Mektarian reached over to the driver’s side, and pushed on the gas pedal. The truck then crashed into a power pole, a chain-link fence, and then into a home, on the 4900 block of Polk.

Police said Mektarian has been booked into jail for Attempted Carjacking, as well as for a parole warrant.
