Man Critically Injured in Central Fresno Shooting

Police are investigating a gang-related shooting in central Fresno that left a man in his 20s fighting for his life.

It happened around 8 p.m. Wednesday in the area of Clinton and Weber.

Police are now searching for four African American young men who they say ran from the scene.

The victim was taken to the hospital in critical condition with a gunshot wound to the right side of his neck, but is now expected to survive, according to Sgt. Justin Hoagland with the Fresno Police Department.

Police responded to calls of shots fired in the area of Clinton and Weber, and nearby police heard the gunshots as well.

They arrived to find the victim lying in the parking lot in front of a Pizza Hut near Clinton and Weber.

Police are investigating exactly where the shooting happened.

They say a lot of people were out in the area at that time.

"We had a description of four African American males, either adults or juveniles that fled on foot from the scene. We are, as we speak, getting updates about their location. We were getting information from other citizens reporting males that are hiding in their yards or walking through alleyways that are looking suspicious," Hoagland said.

Police closed down Clinton to east and westbound traffic from Weber to Crystal Avenues for more than two hours to investigate the crime scene.

Police say they have collected surveillance video from neighboring businesses, and are now reviewing that.

Anyone with information should call the Fresno Police Department or Crime Stoppers at 498-STOP to remain anonymous.
