Man Eludes Police in SE Fresno

Wednesday night officers tried to make a traffic stop in Southeast Fresno. The driver of the car police were trying to stop got out and ran, starting an evening of chaos for the surrounding neighborhood.

Search helicopters, 15 patrol cars, and a canine unit were called into action Wednesday night in the neighborhood near Park Circle and Clovis Avenue.

Investigators aren’t sure why the suspect ran, but his actions put this neighborhood on edge.

"We had a resident just north of us here on Clovis Avenue call in. She saw him run through her backyard," said Sgt. Doug Goertzen of the Fresno Police Department.

Even with all these resources in the area, officers say the suspect got away, but they are following up leads.

"we did have a citizen call in who saw a possible suspect get into another vehicle and leave the area we were able to get a license plate from that vehicle and we have officers following up on that," said Sgt. Goertzen.

After searching this area investigators say they don’t believe there is any danger to the public, but if you have any information you’re asked to call Fresno Police.
