Memorial Day

New at six, a group of wood carvers who honor veterans with special walking canes were recognized for their work today.

A event for the Freedom Cane Carvers was held in Clovis.

It was to recognize the people who hand carve the eagle heads. The canes were presented to the veterans at the V-A hospital.

Don Lenz, carver: The best part is when you hand it to em because of those big tough guys cry."

The freedom cane carvers have been making the canes for 8 years. No two are alike. So far, they’ve presented 390 canes to local veterans.
