Modesto farmers will be allowed to sell water to each other

Many canals are currently dry, but farmers will soon start pumping water, although not everyone will need it.<br /><br />Some annual crops can survive a year without water. Others, including almond orchards and vineyards, can’t. The Modesto Irrigation District are allowing farmers to sell water to each other. <br /><br />The San Joaquin County Farm Bureau says this isn’t unusual in a drought and the water price is reasonable because most farms want to help keep their neighbors in business. <br /><br />&quot;People are trying to take care of home. You will see some water sales – one farmer to their neighbor within districts,&quot;&nbsp;<span style="font-size: 13.3333330154419px;">Bruce Blodgett, the Exec. Director of San Joaquin County Farm Bureau said.<br /><br /></span>The Farm Bureau says selling ground water is so controversial that many counties don’t allow it.<br /></div>
