MARIPOSA COUNTY — A months-long investigation into one of the most severe child sexual abuse material (CSAM) cases in Mariposa County history has led to the arrest of 58-year-old Robert Brooks.
Arrest Tied to Digital Evidence
Deputies located and arrested Brooks on April 15, 2025, in Calaveras County, where he had been working. They transported him to the Mariposa County Jail, where he remains in custody with bail set at $50,000.
The arrest follows a search warrant executed in September 2024 at a property in the Coulterville/Greeley Hill area. Investigators seized 133 digital devices from Brooks’ residence. An initial forensic preview revealed CSAM on 25 of those devices.
The Mariposa County Sheriff’s Office partnered with the Central California Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force and the Fresno Multi-Agency Digital (MAD) Lab for the digital forensic analysis. Over the course of several months, forensic experts extracted and reviewed content from the devices. The results were staggering; 14,649 videos and 886,169 images were uncovered, with a significant portion identified as child sexual abuse material.
Authorities issued a Ramey warrant and arrested Brooks without incident. He has since been booked under Penal Code 311.11(a) – Possession of Obscene Matter Depicting a Minor Engaged in Sexual Conduct.
