
CENTRAL VALLEY — According to reports from the California Highway Patrol (CHP), a routine traffic stop on southbound State Route 99 recently led to a major discovery. With the help of K9 Shei, Officers recovered both illegal drugs and an unregistered firearm.
K9 Uncovers Drugs & Gun
During the traffic stop, the officer noticed that the driver and passenger appeared extremely nervous and provided conflicting stories about their travel plans. Trusting their instincts and training, the officer requested assistance from a K9 team.
CHP Central Division K9 Shei responded to the scene and quickly alerted officers to the odor of narcotics inside the vehicle. A search of the car uncovered approximately 20 pounds of methamphetamine and an unregistered Glock handgun.
Officers arrested both individuals on the spot and took them to the CHP Merced Area office. They then transferred the case to the Merced Area Gang and Narcotic Enforcement Team (MAGNET), which is continuing the investigation.
