
MOUNTAIN COMMUNITIES — As fire season approaches, local leaders and safety organizers across the foothills are teaming up to help residents prepare. Both Mariposa County and Easter Madera County will host free, family-friendly wildfire preparedness events packed with resources, tips, and tools designed to keep communities safe.
Mariposa Wildfire Preparedness Fair
- When: Saturday, May 10, from 12:00 to 4:00 p.m.
- Where: Mariposa Courthouse Lawn (5088 Bullion Street)
- Hosted by: Mariposa County, UC Cooperative Extension, Mariposa County Fire, and the Mariposa County Chamber of Commerce.
Attendees can connect with local organizations to learn about:
- Defensible space, home gardening, and evacuation planning
- Emergency alerts and evacuation routes
- Free resources to help families stay prepared
- Local programs that assist with wildfire risk reduction
Organizers will provide lunch, and attendees don’t need to register. Children are also welcome, making it a great learning opportunity for the whole family.
“Wildfire Ready EMC” – Eastern Madera County
- When: Saturday, May 10th, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
- Where: Oakhurst Community Center
- Presented by: FAMCO and supported by CAL FIRE, California Fire Safe Council, and state grant funding
This community wildfire adaptation event brings together safety experts and local partners to offer guidance on the following:
- Fire-resistant landscaping
- Insurance and recovery planning
- Affordable home retrofits
- Community protection plans and emergency strategy
- Individual risk assessments and vegetation management
- Chipping programs, defensible space aid, and pet safety
