MARIPOSA — The Mariposa County Arts Council‘s Music on the Green concert series rolls into another weekend of free live music, bringing a blend of local talent and community celebration to downtown Mariposa.
Local Metal with JNX
To kick off the series, is JNX, on Friday, June 13th. JNX is a homegrown heavy metal band made up of brothers Jonah (guitar) and Xavier (drums), alongside their father, Roger Dacanay, on bass.
The Mariposa-based trio delivers high-energy performances reminiscent of classic ’70s and ’80s hair bands. Their solos and rhythms pay homage to the genre’s golden era.
Folk Rock with 2nd Wind
Additionally, on Saturday, June 14th, Terry Barnes’ 2nd Wind will take the stage, bringing acoustic folk rock sounds to the Art Park. Based in Chowchilla, the group delivers heartfelt interpretations of music from the 1960s, 1970s, and beyond. Fresno’s own Roger Perry, a well-known figure in the Central Valley music scene, will join the band.
Event Details
Importantly, both concerts begin at 7:00 p.m. at the Mariposa County Art Park, located in historic downtown Mariposa. Visitors can find parking along 4th and 5th Streets, with accessible pathways available through the lower 5th Street parking lot via the Mariposa Creek Pathway. Organizers encourage attendees to bring lawn chairs or blankets and to tip the performers if they’re able.
Community Backing
Mariposa County High School student Elizabeth Encoyard created this season’s promotional artwork. Her digital illustration reflects the region’s natural beauty and the energy of the summer concert series.
As part of the Arts Council’s annual Student Artist Initiative, the program supports local youth by offering mentorship and opportunities to create public-facing artwork. In turn, providing real-world experience in both the creative and professional realms.
Moreover, Music on the Green is made possible through the generous support of local businesses and individuals. Special recognition goes to Andy Roberts, longtime producer of the series, whose commitment and leadership have helped make Music on the Green a cherished summer tradition in Mariposa.
