OAKHURST — The community is invited to come together for the next Helping One Woman (HOW) Oakhurst dinner. This month’s dinner honors Nancy Peters, a mountain area resident since the 1980s. All proceeds go directly to Nancy as she focuses on her treatment and healing.

Nancy Peters has dedicated her life to serving others. A longtime Oakhurst resident since the 1980s, Nancy returned in 2014 to pursue her passion for social work. She earned her degree and began working with a nonprofit focused on helping at-risk youth – empowering many to leave the streets, stay in school, and overcome addiction. Many now credit her with changing their lives for the better.

Nancy also volunteered at Manna House and became actively involved in local government, continually seeking ways to uplift her community. However, in early 2024, Nancy’s life changed when she began battling a persistent, undiagnosed cough that led to repeated ER visits. After a year of uncertainty, she developed pneumonia and required hospitalization. During her stay, doctors eventually discovered stage 3A small-cell lung cancer.

She is currently undergoing aggressive chemo and radiation treatments. Though the road is tough, Nancy remains hopeful and strong. Her family surrounds her with love and continues to support her through this fight.

A Special Night of Giving

To begin, this event is sponsored by Molly Taylor. Attendees must purchase prepaid dinner tickets, presented by Bee’s Bakery Café, at MYSOSEvent.com.

Additionally, attendees must provide a minimum $10 monetary gift at the door, payable in cash, check (made out to Nancy Peters), or Venmo. Every dollar collected will go directly to Nancy.

In addition to dinner, attendees can participate in a raffle, silent auction, and live auction, with all proceeds benefiting Nancy. Community members are encouraged to donate prizes or auction items by contacting a HOW leader for arrangements. At the end of the evening, Nancy will randomly draw the June HOW nominee.
