MADERA COUNTY — The California Department of Forestry & Fire Protection (CAL FIRE) will conduct prescribed burns in Eastern Madera County later this month, weather and resources permitting. These controlled burns are part of ongoing efforts to reduce wildfire risk and lower suppression costs for California residents.

Targeted Fire Prevention Efforts

The first burn is scheduled for June 20, from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., in the Tesoro Viejo area. CAL FIRE plants to treat 100 acres starting at Tesoro Viejo Boulevard, extending north toward the Madera Canal. The project aims to reduce fire danger to the community of Tesoro Viejo, located along the Highway 41 corridor.

Officials say the burn should not impact traffic on Highway 41, and they will only close lanes if an emergency occurs.

The second burn is planned for June 24, from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., near Minarets High School. Crews will burn approximately 14 acres of vegetation surrounding the school to protect infrastructure and reduce hazardous fuels. There is no anticipated impact on traffic along Road 200.

CAL FIRE urges drivers to remain alert for crews and exercise caution when passing through these areas. These controlled burns are planned, and officials ask the public not to report smoke if they are in the designated areas.
