OAKHURST — As the summer season kicks off and Yosemite’s campgrounds reopen, guests are encouraged to explore the region responsibly and to plan ahead, as reservations are required for the park’s peak hours.

Travel Tips

Firstly, from now through August 15 — and again over Labor Day weekend, August 30 through September 1 — all visitors entering Yosemite between 6:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. must have a peak-hours reservation. Travelers can reserve spots at Recreation.gov, and the site releases additional reservations seven days in advance to assist last-minute planners.

If you’d rather skip the reservation hassle, consider booking with a local tour operator. Many tours include park entry and eliminate the stress of driving and parking. In turn, giving you more time to enjoy the views and expert narration.

For a budget-friendly and eco-conscious option, hop on the free Oakhurst Trolley or Bass Lake Shoreline Shuttle, operating Friday through Sundays. The trolly connects riders with shops, restaurants, and galleries in Oakhurst. The shoreline shuttle links popular lakeside destinations with beaches, hiking trails, and dining spots. Both services stop at major hotels and offer a convenient way to explore the region without adding to traffic congestion.

Keeping the Region Clean

With more visitors comes a greater need for stewardship. Visit Yosemite encourages everyone to follow Leave No Trace principles and Recreate Responsibly. Free garbage bags are available at the Oakhurst Visitor Center to help protect the landscape for future generations.

In addition, volunteers are invited to join the Oakhurst Facelift on October 4, 2025. Organized by the Yosemite Climbing Association and Visit Yosemite | Madera County, the cleanup event targets local areas like the Oakhurst River Parkway Trail. Volunteers removed over 1,800 pounds of trash during last year’s Facelift.

Explore Sustainability

Whether you’re entering the park or staying around Oakhurst and Bass Lake, Visit Yosemite | Madera County invites you to travel with intention. Use free weekend shuttles, reduce waste, and take part in community-driven efforts to keep the Yosemite area clean.
