Bass Lake – Madera County Sheriff Tyson Pogue announced today at a press conference that Robert “Bob” Boyajian has been murdered. The suspect has been taken into custody and has confessed to the crime. Using information that he provided to the deputies, the body has been located and recovered.
Audric Matevosian , aged 21, worked for Robert for some time as his IT specialist, and the circumstances of the murder are considered premeditated.
A report was made Monday evening by an employee of Mr. Boyajian. He had missed an appointment which was very unusual for him. A welfare check was requested.
Deputies responded to Mr. Boyajians residence, and found that his vehicle was in the garage. All of his belongings, including his Apple Watch were in the home. His cellphone and wallet were missing, as was all the bedding.
Matevosian was contacted by detectives investigating the case. As his IT specialist, he had access to all of the cameras in Mr. Boyajians home. He directed the detectives on how to access the cameras, and then told them were to find the drives that recorded the video footage, but when the detectives looked, the equipment was missing.
The MCSO then gained access to Mr. Boyajians bank records, which showed that on Sunday evening, a $1000 withdrawal was made from his account. The ATM surveillance showed that Audric Matevosian had made the withdrawal.
Detectives then went to Audrics home, and found the suspect at home with his parents. During the interview he referred to Mr. Boyajian in the past tense. At first he claimed that Mr. Boyajian had committed suicide, but then changed his story and said that Mr. Boyajian had requested that Audric assist him in committing suicide. Ultimately, he admitted to killing Mr. Boyajian around midnight on Saturday. At which point he drove to the Mojave desert where he buried the body in a cave. Audric told the detectives that Bob had taken him to that location on an off-road OHV trip.
He admitted that his motives were two-fold. He said that there was resentment towards Mr. Boyajian, as he had spoken disparagingly about Audrics family. Secondly, he committed the murder for financial gain.
At least a week prior, Audric had purchased a body bag from Amazon, indicating early planning of this crime. He rented a vehicle in Fresno on Friday, then called Bob to insure that he was home in Bass Lake. He drove to Mr. Boyajians house to spend the night, which witnesses say was not out of the ordinary. After Mr. Boyajian went to bed, Audric murdered him, sometime around midnight.
He wrapped the body in bedding from the house, placed it in the body bag, and drove it to the desert where he buried it.
On his return to Fresno, he used Bobs ATM card to withdraw the $1000.
Detectives travelled to the Mojave desert, and found the body buried exactly where the suspect had told them it would be. San Bernadino County will handle the coroner’s investigation since the body was found in their jurisdiction. They will determine the official manner and cause of death.
Several key pieces of evidence were found in the suspects possession. Two handguns were found, one that had been reported stolen to the Fresno police department in March, and a second that Mr. Boyajian had carried under a concealed carry permit.
They also located Mr. Boyajians missing cell phone, near Woodward Park, where Audric had tried to dispose of it. Also found in Audrics possession was Mr. Boyajians wallet, as well as the shovel that was used in the burial.
