The Big Bear Fire is a lightning caused fire started on July 9 and is approximately 11,241 acres. Fire activity yesterday moved into Bruin Creek drainage and Hot Springs Meadow around middle to lower elevations. Firefighters have successfully defended the Artic Creek Lodge and River of No Return Lodge with point zone protection tactics, and no further action will be taken. The Forest is working closely with the Nez Perce Clearwater, the Bitterroot National Forest and the Salmon-Challis National Forest related to fire activity and rafting on the Salmon River. The Salmon-Challis National Forest is communicating with Main Salmon River boaters and outfitters and other permit holders.
