The Kirkland Fire started Friday, August 1, approximately 3:15 pm, 2 miles northeast of Hillside in Yavapai County. The wind-driven fire is pushing to the northeast through grass and brush. One hand crew and engines are currently engaged with full suppression efforts with additional resources, including a Type 2 hand crew, hotshot crew, seven engines, water tenders, and a med team on order for the morning.
Firefighters are scouting for control features which they can use to contain the fire. If necessary, resources will conduct firing operations along County Road 96 to help slow the fire's spread, and keep it from advancing toward the community of Yava.
The fire is estimated at 750 acres with no containment.
Hot and dry conditions forecast for the next few days will play an active role in fire activity and potential growth. Winds up to 20 miles per hour are forecast for the area on Saturday.
