Significant improvement took place today on the Castle Rock Fire burning on Castle Rock Mountain approximately 2 miles east of Arden. Lightning caused, the fire quickly advanced to the northwest in thick vegetation and rugged terrain.
Sawyers and hand crews made considerable progress with mop up operations extending from the fire perimeter through the interior of the fire. Grid operations continued, extending 100-feet on the southwest flank, while crews working the Northeastern flank gained ground on completing a 200-foot grid and sawyers removed fuels and continued to mitigate known hazards.
Suppression and road repair efforts continue as crews work to reinforce the overall fire perimeter.
Tonight, a small night crew will be out patrolling the fire line and looking for hot spots using PalmIR.
Crews remain actively engaged with an anticipated reduction in resource needs beginning at the end of the week.
