The Elk Fire, located on the Bighorn National Forest, was detected Friday, September 27, 2024 approximately 15 miles northwest of Dayton, Wyoming. Firefighters, airtankers and a helicopter initially responded to the fire. The fire was declared out on January 3, 2025. Fire suppression repair and repair to impacted infrastructure along with monitoring for post-fire debris flows is ongoing.

Road Conditions: Please visit the Wyoming Department of Transportation for the latest road closure information. Please consider using other routes than Forest System Road 26 so that logging crews are able to complete their task of moving log decks.
