The Crescent Road Fire was reported around 4 pm yesterday, August 13th and is located in the Devil’s Gap Road area near the Lincoln County and Spokane County lines. Initially the fire spread east with numerous aircraft assisting in slowing the fire’s spread. Fire behavior lowered overnight as winds decreased and relative humidity increased. Dozer lines and small portions of handline combined with natural features have been utilized to stop the forward progress of the fire. The initial size of 500 acres was estimated by crews initially on scene based on the locations of suppression activities. The discrepancy in acreage is due to an infrared flight to give more accurate acreage, not due to significant fire growth overnight. A state mobilization request was approved at 7:30 pm last night allowing for additional resources. Two strike teams are arriving today (10 engines and 2 tenders). Additional resources are also arriving throughout the day today into tomorrow. Northeast Washington Incident Management Team 2 took over the fire at 10 am today.
Closures: Sontag Park in Nine Mile Falls is closed to allow for fire apparatus and personnel to extend parking beyond Nine Mile Falls Elementary School.
