Fire will spread rapidly to the northeast towards Chicken Creek Summit through a continuous bed of receptive fuels of sagebrush and grass. Fire is wind driven and is expected to advance an additional 6,000 acres in the next 12 hours.
The fire will likely burn actively through the night with poor RH recovery expected. The Fire has reached the Ormat Geothermal Power Plant, no known structure loss, assessment are currently being conducted. Structure protection is currently in place for ranches along Highway 226.
Crews will try to keep the fire from crossing HWY 226 this evening as the fire is making a significant push in that direction. If the fire jumps the Hwy it will then start burning on the west slopes of the Independence Range which is highly inaccessible due to steep terrain
