IDENTIFIED: Fresno woman fatally struck by suspected DUI driver

FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – The woman who was hit and killed by a suspected DUI driver while on a sidewalk in Fresno has been identified by the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office.

Sunday afternoon, officers responded to Olive Avenue and First Street in Fresno, where they reported finding a woman suffering from major injuries.

The woman, identified by the coroner as 30-year-old Shante Vasquez, succumbed to her injuries on scene.

Detectives on scene reported the driver involved, 47-year-old Akinyele Chatmon, was driving under the influence of both alcohol and drugs.

Police say Chatmon was eventually booked on a charge of felony DUI.

The collision remains under investigation.
