The County received a Sustainable Transportation Planning Grant from Caltrans to fund the Mariposa Town Transit & Economic Development Initiative. This planning effort will develop recommendations to improve and expand downtown parking options, increase ridership on the Yosemite Area Regional Transportation System (YARTS), and enhance the pedestrian experience along the downtown corridor. 

This Initiative will evaluate how improved wayfinding, parking, and pedestrian strategies can encourage more of the hundreds of thousands of tourists who pass through Mariposa each year to stop and visit downtown businesses. The 2017 Mariposa County Economic Vitality Strategy called for a transit strategy like this Initiative, identifying the need to “develop and expand tourism infrastructure to capture and support growth in tourism, making it easy and convenient for visitors to find destinations and get around by car, foot, and bicycle.” The Mariposa Town Transit & Economic Development Initiative will help fulfill this community need.
