Capitol flags at half-mast for fallen Corcoran officer

CORCORAN, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – A longtime Corcoran Correctional Officer is being honored at the state capitol after passing away following a medical emergency at work Thursday.

Correctional Officer Jonathan Townsend passed away on Sept. 11 after succumbing to a medical emergency while on duty at California State Prison, Corcoran.

In his honor, flags will be flown at half-mast at the State Capitol and the Capitol Annex Swing Space.

“May Correctional Officer Jonathan Townsend be remembered for his professionalism and selflessness to carry out his duties to protect the people of California,” Governor Gavin Newsom said. “Jennifer and I offer our deepest condolences to his family, friends, and colleagues as they mourn his loss. We are eternally grateful for his years of service to the people of California.”

Townsend had served in the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation since 2003. He leaves behind his wife and three children.
