REEDLEY, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – Friends and family of a Reedley woman shot and killed by her husband gathered for a vigil on Sunday to remember 43-year-old Yesennia Rocha.
On Saturday, Sept. 6, police responded to a report of a domestic disturbance between a husband and wife in Reedley, near Frankwood and Parlier avenues. Upon arrival, responding officers found Yesennia dead after suffering several gunshot wounds.

Her husband, 43-year-old Michael Rocha, fled the scene following the shooting, which took place in front of their children and other family members.
Michael Rocha was found in the Woodlake area. He led authorities on a pursuit before firing shots at pursuing deputies. The sheriff’s office says deputies fired back, striking Rocha. He was pronounced dead at the scene a short time later.

On Sunday, Sept. 14, community members in Reedley came together for a candlelight vigil to honor Rocha’s memory and express gratitude for their own lives, “because we are not promised tomorrow.”
Pictures from the vigil, provided by Danny Jimenez, show a crowd of people holding candles coming together to remember Yesennia Rocha. Many of the people in the crowd were seen wearing shirts with Yessenia’s name and picture on them.

The vigil, which stretched into the night, allowed mourners to grieve together following the deadly shooting.
