'Torrential' rain, hail expected for these Central Valley cities

FRESNO COUNTY, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – Half-inch hail and “torrential” rain are expected to pummel portions of the Central Valley Friday afternoon.

The storm was spotted near Three Rivers at 3:25 p.m., moving southeast at 10 mph. It is expected to impact the Fresno and Tulare county foothills, Sequoia National Park, and the south end of the upper and lower Sierra.

The National Weather Service says “torrential” rainfall may lead to localized flooding in these areas. Up to .5 inches of rain have already fallen, and an additional 1.5 inches is possible. The flood advisory will remain in effect until 5:30 p.m.

According to Doppler radar, half-inch hail that could damage vegetation is also possible in Three Rivers, Hockett Meadow Ranger Station, South Fork Campground, Case Mountain, and Wet Meadows. Hail can be expected in these areas until 4 p.m.
