MARIPOSA, CA – Recent rains and cooler temperatures may place residents in a false sense of security when it comes to residential debris burning. While rain can dampen and slow the existing fire activity in the short term, warmer, dryer conditions are projected to return and increase the threat of wildfire.
The Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE) would like to remind the public that debris burning is still currently suspended. CAL FIRE firefighters and CAL FIRE Law Enforcement Officers will be responding to fires and enforcing the suspension of debris burning by issuing citations for illegally burning debris. CAL FIRE has adopted the use of cameras to detect locations of smoke even in the dark evening hours, and illegal debris fires can, and will, be detected.
CAL FIRE would like to remind the public, once burning is permissive to obtain a burn permit, and follow the guidelines for proper burning of debris piles.
