FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – People who live in Fresno can be eligible to get a $2 rebate per square foot for eligible lawn conversion projects.
The city is encouraging homeowners and businesses to take advantage of the expanded lawn-to-garden rebate program this fall.
This program is open to all customers who receive water through the city’s public utilities. The city said that funding is available on a first-come, first-served basis and is supported in part by a $5 million grant from the Department of Water Resources.
“Homeowners can earn up $3,000 for converting up to 1,500 square feet of front lawn. The commercial, industrial, and institutional (CII) property can convert up to 4,000 square feet, with a maximum incentive of $8,000,” the city said.
“Applicants must receive pre-approval before beginning any projects. Eligible conversions must include at least 200 square feet of front lawn replaced with approved drought-tolerant plants. Lawns must show signs of recent and consistent watering from an irrigation system. Artificial turf is not eligible for rebate funding,” the city said.
