OAKHURST, CA – The local chapter of nonprofit organization Helping One Woman (HOW) will meet on November 18, 2025, at Bee’s Bakery Cafe in Oakhurst. This month’s recipient is Frances Glenn, who is lovingly sponsored by Pinky Higgins and Sayra Standen.

November Recipient
Frances Glenn is a resilient 64-year-old woman facing some incredibly tough challenges. She lives with stage 2 melanoma, Lyme disease, and severe rheumatoid arthritis, which has limited the use of her hands and made daily tasks increasingly difficult. Frances and her husband, Sam Glenn, were married
for 30 years and built their life together in a close-knit mountain community, where they were known and loved by neighbors and friends. In August, Frances suffered a heartbreaking loss when Sam passed away unexpectedly from a massive heart attack.
His sudden death has left a significant void in her life and in the community he was so much a part of. Due to her health, Frances is unable to drive and lives alone without close family or children to support her. She’s doing her best to navigate this new chapter, even parting with personal belongings to stay afloat. Despite everything, she continues to face each day with courage and quiet strength.
Those participating in the HOW benefit dinner will make a contribution of $10 or more for Frances and pay for their own dinners. Proceeds from the evening will be distributed directly to Frances at the end of the event.

Christmas Blessing
At the end of each year, HOW Oakhurst shares a Christmas Blessing, where they extend a small but meaningful gift to a woman who has already been part of the HOW Oakhurst journey.
Thanks to the incredible generosity of Helping One Woman National, each HOW Chapter is able to bless a former 2025 recipient with a $100 gift. All of the 2025 HOW Oakhurst recipients will be placed into a bowl at the November dinner. At the end of the evening, one newsletter will be randomly selected. The woman named on that newsletter will be honored with this year’s Christmas Blessing.
Organizers hope to see former recipients and sponsors in attendance, helping them continue this annual tradition of connection and gratitude.

How To Be Involved
- Interested in contributing a prize drawing or auction item? Please contact a HOW Leader. We don’t have a drop-off location in town, but we’d love to meet you in person and thank you for your generosity!
- You do not need to know our recipient to join the fun. Men and children are welcome. We are family-friendly.
- Make your own nomination! Nominations are made in person by attending a HOW Dinner. One adult is allowed per nomination form per dinner, so feel free to bring friends!
What qualifies a HOW Recipient:
- Nominee must be a woman in our community, and
- This woman (or her child or her spouse) is going through or has gone through an irreplaceable loss within the last 18 months.
Please note that a financial hardship alone does not qualify a HOW Recipient. If you are not sure your recipient qualifies to be nominated, please feel free to contact us with questions HOWOakhurstChapter@gmail.com
