MADERA, CA – On Saturday, September 27, 2025, the Madera County Museum invites the public to a free open house, showcasing the rich history of Madera and the significance of the county’s heritage. The event will take place at the historic old County Courthouse, located at 210 W. Yosemite Avenue in Madera, starting at 11 a.m. This open house is part of the beloved annual Old Timers’ Day celebration and marks a special milestone: the 70th anniversary of the Madera County Historical Society.

Visitors to the museum will be treated to exhibits highlighting life in Madera and across the United States in 1955, the year the Historical Society was founded. These displays promise to transport attendees back in time, offering a glimpse into the daily lives, challenges, and triumphs of people during that vibrant era.

This year has been particularly remarkable for the Madera County Museum, which recently garnered “gold” in the annual Best of Central California contest. The museum proudly claimed first place in both the “Best Museum” and “Best Place to Volunteer” categories, and it notably secured “bronze” for “Best Attraction.” These accolades underscore the museum’s commitment to preserving and sharing Madera’s history and providing engaging volunteer opportunities within the community.

Housed within the historic Madera County Courthouse, the museum boasts approximately 21,000 historical artifacts and photographs spread over three floors. The courthouse itself is a piece of history, having begun construction in 1900, only to be burned down on Christmas Eve 1906 and rebuilt shortly thereafter. This resilient structure stands as a testament to the enduring spirit of the Madera community.

The open house will commence right after the annual Old Timers Day Parade, allowing attendees to enjoy both the parade festivities and the museum’s offerings. The museum will be open until 2 p.m., providing ample time for guests to explore its compelling exhibitions.

In a delightful addition to the day’s festivities, Sheryl Berry, the president of the Historical Society, and her husband Randy will take on the roles of this year’s Queen and King of the parade. Their involvement highlights the importance of community engagement and leadership in preserving the rich tapestry of Madera’s history.

Join the Madera County Museum on September 27 for an unforgettable experience that honors the past while celebrating the present!
