MARIPOSA, CA – Although not a local resident, Sheila Raboy has family living in Mariposa County and is very appreciative of having a capable hospital nearby when she visits. “People in my family have needed John C. Fremont Healthcare Districts services,” said Raboy, “and I am so grateful it is there.”

Raboy’s retirement plan has a mandatory distribution, part of which she likes to give to charities for tax reasons – and because it makes her feel good.
The past few years, Raboy has designated the JCF Hospital Foundation as a beneficiary. “It’s an easy way to give, helps me manage my taxes, and the Foundation is such a worthwhile charity,” said Raboy.
If you have a mandatory distribution from your retirement plan and wish to give all or part of those funds to charity, the JCF Hospital Foundation qualifies as a charity for your distribution.
“A lot of folks don’t know – actually I just learned about it three years ago,” continued Raboy, “you can give part or all of your mandatory deduction from your IRA account tax free. Since the money in your IRA account was not taxed as income when it went in, it gets taxed with today’s income tax unless you donate to a legitimate nonprofit like the JCF Hospital Foundation,” said Raboy.
“After you retire, each year, they make you take out more,” she explained. “This, plus your taxable social security, can move you into a higher tax bracket. Instead of paying more taxes, I donate it to several different nonprofits.”
Raboy grew up in a rural community with a small hospital. “That hospital didn’t have a supporting foundation like the JCF Hospital Foundation, and it completely folded. Now residents have to drive over an hour for emergency care,” stated Raboy. “The town itself has become run down and half its size from when I grew up. If you can donate some of your Mandatory Retirement Distribution while saving tax dollars, please consider that,” Raboy concluded.

Proceeds raised by the JCF Hospital Foundation benefit the John C. Fremont Healthcare District’s programs and services, such as the hospital, and outpatient services, as well as scholarships and community health programs in our surrounding rural areas.
If you don’t have a mandatory retirement distribution, you still have the opportunity to contribute. Please consider an end of the year gift to the Foundation. If you prefer to direct a contribution for a specific purpose, please consider donating to our current ventilator campaign.
“Three of the top five complaints patients had when visiting the Emergency Department involved respiratory health. Ventilators save lives, and we need a new one to serve our community,” said Bernikoff.
You can donate at this link, or via check to JCFHF, PO Box 1093, Mariposa, CA 95338. Donations are tax deductible.
