TULARE COUNTY, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – A man from Tulare currently serving time in San Quentin Prison for stabbing two victims in an alley was denied parole, the Tulare County District Attorney’s Office announced Monday.
According to court records, on Feb. 13, 2016, just after midnight, Tulare Police responded to a call where they found two victims suffering from severe stab wounds in an alley. The victims, both unhoused, were transported to a local hospital for treatment.
Detectives on scene reported locating a large kitchen knife and a blood trail leading to a nearby apartment complex. There, an occupant inside had blood on her hands and blood splattered on the wall.
After searching the apartment, investigators said bleach and blood-covered shirts were found. The suspect, identified as Alexander Mendez, was taken into custody, along with a juvenile suspect. Mendez was determined to be an active gang member, adding that the juvenile shouted gang slogans as they stabbed the victims.
In 2018, the DA reported Mendez pled no contest to premeditated attempted murder with special allegations that the crime caused great bodily injury and that the crime was for the benefit of a criminal street gang. He was ultimately sentenced to 15 years to life in prison.
On Mendez’s first parole hearing on Dec.16, 2025, the DA reported prosecutors secured a 5-year denial of parole for him. While incarcerated, attorneys added that Mendez had violated rules, including selling and using drugs.
