VISALIA, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – After 26 years, a beloved Chinese restaurant in Visalia closed for good over the weekend.
The owners of “Hong Kong Lum Lums” tell YourCentralValley.com that they are ready to retire and do not want to continue the building’s lease. The restaurant, known for its pork fried rice, egg rolls, and broccoli beef, served up its last meals on Sunday.
“This is a place that women, especially, can come in and feel safe and not be hounded by guys and stuff,” said manager Ronnie Ramirez. “We don’t put up with any kind of violent tendencies and stuff like that. So what we were trying to do is just make it an enjoyable place to kick back, and I think we accomplished that.”
“I’ve been in this bar since I was probably five years old. Not drinking, obviously,” said customer Katelin Boggs. “I’ve been here my whole life, so it’s really sad to see it go because this place is just like a second home to us.”
Management adds that, as the restaurant closes, a lot of memories will go with it.
