Man accused of firing rifle in Clovis neighborhood

CLOVIS, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – A 24-year-old man in Clovis who was arrested is accused of firing a rifle in a residential neighborhood and aiming the gun at officers just minutes after midnight on New Year’s.

According to the Clovis Police Department, minutes after midnight on Jan. 1, CPD’s dispatch received multiple calls about an intoxicated man firing a rifle near Shaw and Fowler.

When officers arrived in the nearby neighborhood at Burgan Avenue and San Jose Avenue, officials say they found the suspect in the front yard of a home with a rifle in his hands.

As officers approached and took cover, officials say the suspect saw the officers and pointed his rifle at them. As soon as officers identified themselves, the suspect cooperated and dropped his rifle.

According to police, the suspect and two other adults, all determined to be intoxicated, were detained without incident, injury, or shots fired.

Police identified the suspect as 24-year-old Tyler Anson of Clovis. Anson was booked into Fresno County Jail for felony assault with a firearm upon a peace officer and discharging a firearm in a gross negligent manner.

The rifle in the suspect’s possession was found to be loaded, with a bullet in the chamber. Multiple firearms were located in the home and booked into evidence by officers.
