Sacramento, CA — Hundreds of new laws are taking effect in California covering a range of issues.
During the last legislative session, over 790 bills were signed by Governor Gavin Newsom.
They cover issues ranging from immigration to wildfires, artificial intelligence, social media, and renter protections. Included is a bipartisan package of more than 20 bills aimed at improving resources for California’s response and recovery efforts in the future for natural disasters like wildfires. There is a 19-bill package to help tenants in the state and reduce the overall cost of living for renters.
The state’s minimum wage went up by 40 cents to $16.90 per hour, and there are increased restrictions on plastic bags at grocery stores and new regulations on food delivery services.
Social media companies are required to make the process of deleting and canceling their accounts easier and more straightforward.
Four new bills deal with cracking down on puppy mills, including a prohibition on third-party pet brokers.
