Helmut (Hal) Kurt Weissmann – Obituary
At 6:39 PM on Saturday, December 13, 2025 Helmut “Hal” Kurt Weissmann went home to be with the Lord surrounded by his loved ones. Hal was especially looking forward to reuniting with his wife Mary in heaven. Hal accepted his diagnosis of cancer with strong Christian faith, telling us all, “don’t cry for me I know where I’m going.”
It was this strength of character that carried him through his life. Born in Bad Aibling Germany November 8, 1944 Hal never met his father who was lost during the war, he eventually immigrated to the United States at the age of ten. His struggles were many, having to learn a new language while being immersed in a culture he didn’t understand in Ohio. He joined the United States Army and served honorably, only after his Army service did he secure his United States citizenship.
While serving in the military he met the love of his life Marietta (Hammond) Weissmann and together they shared 54-years and raised four children. Hal worked for PG&E many years and
retired as a Lineman Crew Supervisor. He never hesitated to respond to callouts for work at all
hours of the night, weekends, holidays or birthdays to repair a power outage. It was this sense
of dedication that was part of his character, if he could fix it with a set of tools he was there. If
you were to ask people to describe Hal, they might all say the same thing, he was the strongest
and hardest working man they ever met and was always willing to help.
Hal lost his wife Mary June 7, 2021 after a long battle with cancer, holding her hand as she took
her last breath. After her passing, Hal realized life was too short and became more invested in
the community, and in his church at Sierra Pines where he was a faithful greeter, and carrot
cake baker every Sunday. He found solace and strength in the people around him and in his
family and friends. He was honored to be part of the local “Road Rattlers” car club, and enjoyed
the companionship of his friends at the weekly Bible study group.
Hal is preceded in death by his wife Mary Weissmann, son William (Billy) Weissmann, mother
Kamilla Gertraud Otto, father Kurt Paul Wilhelm Weissmann. He is survived by his daughter
Jackie Cross, son Joe Weissmann, daughter-in-law Janet Weissmann, daughter Kamilla (Kami)
Allen, and son-in-law Jim Allen, grandchildren, Heather and Chris Sanchez, Kristian and Paige
Cross, Kade Cross, Amanda and Nathan Mitobe, Megan Weissmann, Nicole Gray, Brad and
Kiana Gray, Samantha Allen, Noah and Hannah Allen, great grandchildren Annabelle Marks,
Kaisen and Kendyl Cross, Odin Gray Willis, Lainey Gray, Blair Marietta Spielman, Elouise and
Oliver Allen.
A celebration of life will be held at Sierra Pines Church on Friday February 20, 2026 at 11:00am.
In remembrance of Hal, we ask you to bring a favorite story and some potluck food to share in
the cafe immediately after the service.
